Begum Parveen Sultana is an Assamese Hindustani classical singer of the Patiala Gharana. She is among the foremost classical vocalists in India and is known as Queen of Classical Vocal. She was conferred the Padmashri in 1976, at the age of 25.
She is an artist par excellence, singing a mixture of both, the Kirana Gharana and Patiala Gharana style, blended into an incredibly breathtaking style of gayaki. Her range and voice control is something which speaks volumes of the great talent and divine gift she possesses, while in no way dwarfing the presumably intense and rigorous riyaaz she must have committed herself to.
